Multi-award winning American music act of Stu Kinzel & LynnAnn Hyde (“Best Traditional Act 2001-02-03” Cascade Blues Association) will take listeners on a “…tour of Southern music that will blow you away!” (The Oregonian , J Foyston). They are regarded as “Guardians of Traditional Blues” (The Blues Notes) and are also noted as “…one of the best acts the NW has produced…” (Back to the Roots, Be).
While quotes and accolades are well and good, the Kinzel & Hyde story includes over ten years of community service. Some of the programs they helped to institute and participated in include Blues in the Schools, musical ministry at Sheridan Correctional Facility, Stewards at Ethos Inc, Artists in Residency at St Therese School, and perennial presenters at museums, universities, and other institutions dedicated to American cultural preservation. They have performed at music festivals, nightclubs and dancehalls all over the NW region.
Stu Kinzel has been a NW mainstay guitarist and vocalist since 1976. He performed at the very first Water Front Blues Festival and has been a repeat-billed performer there nine times since then. He is noted as a master slide and finger-style guitarist, songwriter, vocalist and recording engineer. His longtime partner LynnAnn Hyde is a well-known and nationally endorsed harmonica and button-box player (see Hohner Harmonicas USA and Baldoni Accordions) and is also a songwriter/arranger of note in the Pacific NW.
Together Kinzel & Hyde have released several self-recorded and produced sides and discs, including 2002 “Oklahoma Credit Card” which is regarded as “…one of the ‘Best Release’ Blues recordings of 2001- 02….” (Ruth Brown, Blues OnStage, NPR) and recognized as a “…fine American Blues record that should be on everyone’s list” (Blues FreePress, Uk). The pair was included on the “Official Year of the Blues” CD release at the Water Front Blues Festival 2003 and was prominently featured in the documentary film by BOB LEITCH “Portland Mojo-How Stumptown Got the Blues” which previewed at the Portland Art Museum Jan 2010 and is into national distribution consideration.
